Ballboy tosses ball just beyond reach of Jens Lehmann: Video

Things are not going well for Stuttgart this season, and it has gotten to the point where they’re even getting beaten by ballboys on the field.

Down 1-0 to Hannover, Jens Lehmann hoped to get a quick restart to the match and ran over to the ballboy to get the ball. The cheeky little bastard didn’t cooperate though, and instead tossed the ball just over Lehmann’s fingertips.

Given the catlike display of leaping ability demonstrated by Lehmann in his attempt to catch the ball, it is not at all surprising that Stuttgart has been losing recently. Oliver Miller had a better vertical ability.

Well, he did expect the ballboy to just hand him the ball rather than throwing it past him. After the match, a livid Lehmann said, “What kind of culture is this? I wonder if people want to see these scenes. By faking injuries and pulling stunts like those, Hannover wasted 10 minutes. I find it awful that ballboys are being taught to cheat.”

It’s an outrage! Of course, Jens Lehmann once tossed an opponent’s shoe on top of his net, so he’s hardly the most respected voice when it comes to being critical of people cheating.

Sometimes your teammates frustrate you so much that you just want to rip your jersey.

Eintracht Frankfurt keeper Markus Pröll stood on his head to make saves against VfL Bochum, stopping shot after shot, sometimes in quick succession. Unfortunately for Markus, his teammates just stood around and watched him & did little to clear the ball away.

After finally giving up a goal, Pröll had had enough and tore his strip into strips. Let that be a warning, Eintracht players: Next time it will be your skull.

If you deliver a flying karate kick to a guy’s face, and you are not in a karate tournament, chances are quite good that you’re going to get ejected from whatever sport you’re playing.

Kevin-Prince Boateng of Borussia Dortmund got an immediate red card after this flying kick to Wolfsburg’s Makoto Hasebe. Hasebe needed seven stitches to his face.

Boateng was somehow surprised at the referee’s decision to send him off. You mean kicking a guy in the face is NOT legal? Who would have guessed?

One thing is clear though from this video: All violent sports highlights should be set to this music.

Soccer fans are notorious for throwing things on the field during play, usually without repercussion. Every now and then though, the object will interfere with proceedings.

Someone threw a ball of paper on to the pitch during this week’s UEFA Cup semifinal match between Hamburg SV and Werder Bremen. What are the odds that it a small ball of paper would impact play?

As it turned out, pretty good. Hamburg defender Michael Gravgaard tried to clear a ball out, but it skipped over the paper and went out for a corner kick.

In case you can’t see where this is going, Werder Bremen then scored off of that corner and went on to book their spot in the UEFA Cup final.

That reporter should put that ball of paper on eBay since some Werder Bremen fan would probably pay a lot for that piece of history.

German Soccer Team Energie Cottbus Refunds Money To Fans After Sucking Against Schalke 04

Even the most devoted fans have their limits. That’s why German Bundesliga soccer club Energie Cottbus refunded money to 600 of their fans, knowing their patience might be a bit tested.

The 600 fans had traveled to Gelsenkirchen from their homes in Cottbus, a journey of almost 400 miles, in order to watch Energie Cottbus play Schalke 04. They would have enjoyed the match much more had Energie Cottbus sent their players on the road trip as well. Schalke 04 won the match 4-0.

The loss was Energie Cottbus’ 6th in their last 7 matches, and the team is now the 2nd worst in the Bundesliga and facing relegation.

The club notified their fans of the refund by sending out a press release titled, “Sorry.” In the press release, the team said, “”By refunding the cost of admission for their supporters, the red and whites would like to apologise for the pitiful performance which they displayed at the Veltins Arena.”

Judging by how bad this season has gone, the team might want to consider offering season ticket refunds as well.

There is nothing rubbish about this goal.

VfL Wolfsburg’s Grafite pulls off some of the most delicate moves with the ball that I’ve ever seen, then uses a backheel as his final move past the goalie.

Powerful blasts are fun, but that touch by Grafite is amazing. Top notch goal for Wolfsburg as they destroyed Bayern Munich 5-1 to take the Bundesliga lead. Should they hang on, Grafite’s goal will certainly feature on any highlight DVD.

As for Bayern Munich, they might want to invest in their back line for next season so they don’t get embarrassed like that.

One would think that one of the top rules of goalkeeping would be to make sure that you have a clear path in front of you before kicking the soccer ball away.

Fortuna Dusseldorf goalie Michael Melka tried to launch a quick attack, except he instead kicked the ball right off the back of opposing side Regensburg’s Dennis Grassow.

The result was what will certainly be the easiest goal of Grassow’s career. As for Melka, good luck getting out of Germany’s 3rd Division.

Video: Don’t Mess With Jens Lehmann If You Expect To Keep Your Accessories

German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is making quite the name for himself in the field of accessory tossing.

In the past week, he has been in 2 incidents where he has thrown something that belonged to another player.

This weekend, during a 3-3 draw between Stuttgart and TSG Hoffenheim, Lehmann tossed the shoe of Hoffenheim striker Sejad Salihović on to the top of his own net.

Poor Salihović was unable to find his boot and was forced to leave the field until he could find it.

Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick had some unkind words for Jens Lehmann following the match, to which the goalkeeper responded:

“Rangnick’s statement surprises me a lot. It is sad that he does not even seem to know the rules and calls me unfair. While he of all things tolerates the rude foul of that player [Salihović] through which Boka suffered a torn outer ligament. So where is the proportionality in that?

“Usually the referee had to stop the game and send the player off the field so he could have put his shoe back on there. So now the shoe lies were it could be an obstacle for a shot or a through pass. If Rangnick would follow everything so closely like he always pretends he would know that is what I do with everything in and around my penalty area.

Let it be known to all opponents that they should not linger around his penalty area, nor should they leave any clothing or accessories.

On second thought, his teammates might want to take that advice as well.

Just days prior, during a UEFA Cup match between Vfb Sttutgart and Zenit St Petersburg, Lehmann had another run-in with a player – this time with a guy on his own team, Khalid Boulahrouz.

The offense? Boulahrouz had allowed Zenit a clear shot.

Over in Germany, VfB Stuttgart got thumped by Bayern Munich 5-1 in their German Cup matchup. Adding injury to insult was one of Sttugart’s players during the celebration for their only goal.

Mario Gomez scored the goal after Stuttgart fell behind 5-0, then during a muted celebration, teammate Martin Lanig walked up to him and slapped him on the groin. Gomez then shot Lanig a look that clearly said, “Hey dumbass, why’d you just hit me in the balls?” as he then grabbed himself in pain.

This is what happens when you don’t let soccer players use their hands. They just don’t know what to do with them.
