Yup, my groin is cringing in horror, how about yours?

Down in Mexico, bullfighter Jose Tomas messed with the bull and got the horns. Four inches deep into his groin, to be exact. He’s expected to live, despite undergoing surgery at the bullring. No risk of infection with that, I’m sure.

Boxer brothers arrested after fighting each other

Travis and Tarvis Simms are twin brothers who do everything together. Both got into boxing. And both allegedly beat each other up over the weekend after getting into a fight.

As if the punching each other wasn’t bad enough, a gun and a knife were involved, and Travis’ 10-year-old daughter was somehow bitten on the arm.

The most amusing part of the article is that it includes both fighters’ records. Travis was 26-1, with 19 knockouts, while his twin Tarvis was 24-0-1. Sadly, no further tale of the tape was included, and it is not known if this fight was included in their stats.

The 2nd most amusing part? Travis is also a city councilman. He was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, threatening, and third-degree assault, while his brother was charged with risk of injury to a minor, threatening, and third-degree assault.

Getting into a fight with your twin must be strange. Hopefully one of them said, “Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?” during the brawl.

Canadians refused to board Air Canada flight during Olympic gold medal game

We’ve all been there. You’re traveling somewhere & end up watching a game in an airport bar, only to find that it’s time to board and the game isn’t over yet.

Some Canadian travelers on an Air Canada flight from Vancouver unwisely booked their flights for during the gold medal match with the United States. I guess they didn’t think Canada would make it to the final.

As airline staff tried to get them on the plane, the fans refused to budge, staying to watch the game on TV instead.

“We incurred a flight delay for a reason Air Canada had not yet encountered in over 72 years of existence,” said chief executive Calin Rovinescu.

The airline indeed delayed the flight until Canada had won. This never would have happened in the United States, since the flight never would have been on time in the first place.

Last night, Saturday Night Live showed their love (?) of curling, which really was just an excuse to make bad Gyne-Lotrimin jokes while showing an ESPN Classic curling match from 1987.

While the “classic” match featured Finland and Paraguay, the only part of the SNL skit that was at all entertaining was Will Forte’s portrayal of Greg Stink, while Jason Sudeikis played the slightly-less dim Pete Twinkle. The constant Gyne-Lotrimin jokes definitely got old, especially since they weren’t funny in the first place.

London 2012 Olympics venues to be built using recycled guns and knives

Each year, England’s police forces manage to gather an impressive pile of metal in the form of guns, knives, and old keys. Most of the weapons are confiscated off of criminals, while other metal comes from spent ammunition at police firing ranges.

Scotland Yard’s 2009 pile contained 52 tons of metal, much of which is being used as part of recycling projects. One of the major projects for the metal is in the construction of the 2012 Olympic site in Stratford, east London. The weapons will be melted down and reused in girders and other steel that is needed for the construction efforts.

Met Police spokeswoman Sarah Foster said: “We’re constantly looking for new ways to recycle and new markets for our recyclable materials, to conserve resources, save energy and money. As well as working together to make London safer, our staff and officers are playing their part in making London’s environment greener.”

Olympic venues made out of guns? Looks like Gilbert Arenas is going to be making a strong bid to be included on the 2012 Dream Team roster.

Female ski jumpers hope to be last-minute addition to 2010 Olympics

With the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver just a few months away, one would assume the lineup of events would be set in stone. But if a group of women ski jumpers gets their way, there could be a last-minute addition to the Games.

Led by Women’s Ski Jumping USA, a group of jumpers is suing Vanoc, the Vancouver organizers of the Olympics, claiming discrimination because there is a ski jumping event for men, but not for women.

This summer, a judge ruled that while not having an event for women was discriminatory, the IOC was not covered by the Canadian Charter of Rights, and thus was not required to hold events for both men and women. Vanoc is now being targeted as the Canadian representative of the IOC. The ski jumpers are hoping that a ruling against Vanoc will get their event added to the Olympics by the IOC.

While the case has moved through the legal system, the jumpers have remained positive, while the Vanoc has had no choice but to proceed as scheduled.

“I am optimistic that right will prevail,” said Deedee Corradini, the president of Women’s Ski Jumping USA, which has been pushing the case on behalf of a small group of female jumpers. “I have worked with the International Olympic Committee in the past and I cannot believe that if a court here were to order them to put on an event, that they would ignore such an order.”

But Renee Smith-Valade, a spokeswoman for Vanoc, said the organizing committee isn’t making any such plans.

“We don’t have a contingency plan for this,” she told reporters. “With less than 100 days to go, we are responsible for finalizing the preparations for an event that is the equivalent of staging three Super Bowls a day for 17 consecutive days. If and when we are instructed by the IOC to make changes to our planning, we will do so. But at this time, we are completely focused on delivering the 2010 sport program as it currently exists.”

This is a fascinating case to test how much power the IOC should have in comparison to a nation’s laws. Yes, they are an international entity, but at the same time, each country the Games are held in has its own laws. A ruling in favor of the jumpers could limit the power of the IOC, but down the line could also have the effect of impacting which countries will host the Games in the future if the IOC doesn’t want to run afoul of local laws.

Closing arguments will be held on Friday. If the jumpers win, things could get pretty interesting in Vancouver.

Bears: The #1 threat to the Olympic torch relay

The torch for the 2010 Winter Olympics is on its long journey to Vancouver, provided the torch-bearers don’t get eaten by a polar bear along the way.

On Sunday, the torch passed through Churchill, Manitoba, home of 923 people and tons of polar bears. So many polar bears, in fact, that the town bills itself as the “Polar Bear Capital of the World.” With this many polar bears, it’s not surprising that one would make its presence known during the relay. The procession had to be stopped momentarily as a bear was blocking the road on the shore of Hudson Bay.

Once the bear passed, the run continued even further north into the Canadian tundra, where runners braved temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius, which translates to Fahrenheit as “really fucking cold.”

Malaysian sports officials angered by pregnant athlete’s pull-out

Yuan Yufang, competitor in the 20 kilometer walk, pulled out of December’s Southeast Asian Games after her husband did not.

Her pregnancy has angered Malaysian sports authorities, who feel that their country’s medal chances have been blown.

Karim Ibrahim, deputy president of the Malaysian Amateur Athletic Union said, “She should have informed us earlier so that we could prepare another walker to replace her in the Games. Now it is too late to look for a replacement. We will have a council meeting in Ipoh on November 20 to determine what action to take against her. We are disappointed with her as we will lose a sure gold medal in the women’s 20km walk in the biennial Games.”

Guess she shouldn’t be expecting much of a baby shower from MAAU.

How hard can it be though to find someone who can walk? Having not been to Malaysia, I can’t say for sure that it’s not a nation where 99% of the population is in wheelchairs, but I’m thinking these officials could just look out their window and find a perfectly adequate replacement for the competition.

Want to buy 5,000 leftover 2008 Beijing Olympics condoms? Look no further!

The words “leftover” and “condoms” are not typically combined to start a sales stampede, but one Chinese collector of Olympic memorabilia is hoping he will be able to unload his 5,000 condoms from the 2008 Olympics at an auction.

100,000 condoms were distributed during the games, with this guy somehow ending up with 5% of them. His wildly optimistic plans for getting laid fell short, and now you can have these condoms for a mere 5,000 yuan ($730) minimum bid.

The auction, very tastefully named the “Exceptional Auction of China Sport Collection,” will take place November 29th. With each condom possibly going for just 14 cents, that’s a great value.

Auctioneer Guo Lei said, “Although anyone married should be interested for their practical use, some people will be too shy to bid for the condoms.”

The condoms are inscribed with the Olympic motto – “faster, higher, stronger”. I can’t imagine why condoms labeled “faster” never got used. Though Michael Phelps was intrigued by the claim they would get him higher.

If you’re interested in bidding, the auction is unfortunately for all 5,000 condoms, thus narrowing down the list of potential bidders to Wilt Chamberlain’s ghost and as a gag purchase by whoever drew Shawn Kemp as their Secret Santa recipient this year.

U.S. Speedskating

By now this is somewhat old news, but it’s too cool to not write about.

With the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver just a few short months away, the U.S. Speed Skating Team was hit with a major setback after their main sponsor, bankrupt Dutch bank DSB Bank NV, was unable to fund them further.

This left the team with a $300,000 shortfall. Enter Stephen Colbert and the Colbert Nation.

On Monday night, Dan Jansen and U.S. Speedskating executive director Robert Crowley appeared on The Colbert Report, with the host inking a deal to sponsor the team. Fans can head to Colbert Nation to make a contribution.

This is going to be a great deal for everyone. For the cost of airtime, the Colbert Report will get advertising spots on athletes with the best chances of earning medals, plus they’ll likely have the story of their sponsorship covered all over the world. Fans will be able to feel like they’re a part of the team, and the team itself will get some much-needed cash at the 11th hour.

The biggest winner of all will of course be Stephen Colbert’s ego. If any speed skater so much as sniffs gold in Vancouver, you can bet that he will find his way up on to the podium.
