Early morning television is useless and boring, except when guests do things like this.

While promoting a beach volleyball tournament at Sharkey’s Beach Club in Panama City, Florida, this woman was being interviewed on television by WMBB and fainted, falling face first into the sand.

Starting today we have a collegiate challenge that’s open to any college… any college…

Poor Nikki Allen. If you made me get on television at 6am during Spring Break in Panama City, I would probably fall over too.

Nice job by the guy in the jams though, not letting any fainting interviewees get in the way of sending things back to the studio. It’s not like the fainting woman could have been choking on sand or anything.

But hey, here’s your school day forecast!

Ah, summer. The time of year when women take to beaches and play volleyball while wearing very little clothing. Today, NBC will be showing the AVP Crocs Tour Manhattan Beach Open at 4:30pm Eastern (1:30 Pacific). Even though today’s sports slate is full, I suggest checking in and checking out these fine athletes.

Ah, winter. The time of year that until this year had no women’s beach volleyball action. Fortunately for all of us, the AVP is going to change that. Starting this January, they are going to be launching “Hot Winter Nights”, an indoor beach volleyball tour that will be playing in arenas all across the country.

Players expected compete are Kerri Walsh, Misty May-Treanor, Elaine Youngs, Jake Gibb, Sean Rosenthal, Phil Dalhauser, Todd Rogers and Stein Metzger.

Yes, there is men’s volleyball too, but the point of this post is: women’s beach volleyball is a good idea any time of year.

The Pan-American games are going on right now. I wouldn’t have known either had I not read that story the other day about the Brazilian fencer getting stabbed by his brother.

Cuban leader Fidel Castro sure does know about the games though. He has been watching so much of the coverage that he has been forgetting to eat and take his medication.

Castro said: “I hardly take my eyes off the television. Sometimes I forget the time of some food or some pill. I don’t miss an event on the television: weightlifting, taekwando, rowing, cycling, beach volleyball.”

He also applauded women’s artistic gymnastics, calling it a “beautiful sport”.

Let’s see… beach volleyball, women’s gymnastics. We know what sort of pill Fidel is NOT forgetting to take.
