Tennessee fans riot after Lane Kiffin bolts for USC (video)

I’ll admit, when I first heard that Tennessee fans were rioting and causing mayhem after Lane Kiffin announced he was leaving for USC, I figured the reports of the size of the crowd were exaggerated. But unless the video above is from the 2010 Knoxville Night-time Marathon, there were a ton of people who turned out to run Kiffin out of town (or to keep him from leaving, I’m not sure which).

With Lane Kiffin’s address being posted online, and reports such as this one from Renaldo Woolridge of tear gas being used on fans, this will certainly only be the first video to come out of Tennessee. Once others are posted, they’ll be added below.

Since I actually left the house on a Saturday night, I didn’t see “The U” on ESPN tonight. The latest installment of the network’s “30 for 30″ series covered the Miami Hurricanes. Bernie Kosar’s interview clips were apparently quite interesting.

Twitter is all abuzz about the condition of Bernie Kosar. The consensus is he was either drunk during the interview, has some sort of health problem, or morphed into Artie Lange or Joe Namath. Whatever the case, Bernie did not sound or look good.

Of course, Bernie was hired as a special consultant to the Cleveland Browns, which makes any drinking problem perfectly understandable.

It will be interesting to see if Bill Simmons addresses this seemingly drunken interview at some point. If it hadn’t been a project he was involved in and had been on another network, you know he would have remarked on it immediately. Will he censor himself, or will he risk another ESPN Twitter suspension?

Poor Tim Tebow. Four years of college football, and what will a lot of us remember him for the most? Crying after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship today.

And stroking an invisible beard too. Not sure what that was about.

Don’t worry though, Tim. CBS and the rest of the media will surely be there to give you a hug. And if Tim Tebow actually gets the ball in the NFL, those defenses will be sure to hug him as well. So cheer up, buddy!

Coaches get angry with referees frequently, but this unnamed Nebraska coach had a very legitimate reason to be upset with one of the officials at this past weekend’s Nebraska/Kansas game.

Watch as the referee moves down the sideline signaling an incomplete pass. The ball goes right past his moving screen and into the groin of the coach, who never saw it coming.

The ball, his groin… it works on so many levels!

With more and more hits being banned in football, it’s surprising that hits like this one are still allowed in college, but we’ll enjoy them while we can.

Georgia Tech’s Steven Sylvester might disagree though. He was closing in on Miami’s punt returner during their loss to the Hurricanes last night when, out of nowhere, he was absolutely destroyed by Jordan Futch.

There might not be much peripheral vision while wearing a football helmet, but damn, he should have seen that coming.

Tulane Coach Bob Toledo Throws Entire Team Out Of Practice

If their football teams started 0-2, most college football coaches would want their teams to practice as much as possible. Not Tulane Green Wave coach Bob Toledo.

Toledo kicked the entire team out of practice yesterday after he became unhappy with their effort.

Linebacker and team captain David Kirksey said, “This has never happened. This is a Division I program. When a head coach does that, he’s saying something to the team and it’s not good. We just have to be ready, we have to come out tomorrow and show the coaches that they can depend on us as football players.”

While some might think this level of discipline will make players tougher, conditioning them to believe they can get out of practice by making less of an effort seems like it could backfire.

Stopping practice isn’t the only tough method of discipline that Bob Toledo has used. He has also forced the entire team to do push-ups for every mistake that is made. Tulane might not win many football games this year, but if they encounter any impromptu push-up contests, he’s making sure they’ll be ready.

Who Put Up This Billboard Taking A Shot At Charlie Weis?

Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis has had more than his fair share of critics over the last few years, but until now, none of them have gone to the trouble of buying billboard space to go after him.

An ad reading “Best wishes to Charlie Weis in the 5th year of his college coaching internship. — Linebacker Alumni” has gone up above the Linebacker Inn in South Bend.

The Inn didn’t put it up, and they have no idea who did, nor does anyone else in the land of the Fighting Irish. Was it a disgruntled Notre Dame fan? A fan of another school? Bill Belichick? The mystery continues until someone steps forward.

As for Charlie Weis, he’s taking it in stride.

“I’m the head coach at Notre Dame — I mean, welcome to my world. Tell ‘em thanks a lot for wishing me best wishes. I heard about it, I haven’t seen it and we’ll just leave it at that,” said Weis.

This is big moment in college football history. No, not for the act of creating a billboard just to take a shot at a coach. This is the first time anyone has used the words “Charlie Weis” and “billboard” without adding “is the size of a” in between.

Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart showed how Congress is taking on the BCS. There’s apparently no better time for Congress to talk about college football than the beginning of May.

Congress, or at least Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, thinks that the BCS is communism. Because sharing the wealth equally is EXACTLY what the BCS is all about, what with how they allow every school equal chances, and the big schools sacrifice so much for the smaller schools.

All I know is that there is no way that rhubarb should be our national pie. Apple is too obvious, but pumpkin would be a good choice.

Former Georgia and soon-to-be NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night.

Jimmy Fallon has been taking traditional interviews past the normal “sit on the couch and talk” routines, and last night was no different.

As Jimmy threw plates into the air, it was Matt Stafford’s job to throw footballs at them in mid-air.

Stafford went an impressive 3-for-4, and also managed to not kill Jimmy Fallon by sending any shards of plate into his eye.

Old people are great.

They can get away with saying whatever they want, even if it might not be considered politically correct by everyone.

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was interviewed on ESPN last night during the NIT semifinal matchup between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Paterno was reminiscing about the basketball days of yore and said this gem, which might not be something most people would say in this age of political correctness.

“They all talk about it as a Black Man’s game now. Everyone says it’s a Black Man’s game. When I grew up it was a Jewish man’s game.”- Joe Paterno

Now everyone knows this is a lie, as Joe Paterno was 35 when basketball was invented.
