The Butler Bulldogs nearly pulled off the upset in the NCAA Championship Game 2010, but in the end fell just short, breaking the hearts of everyone in the country who didn’t want to see Duke win the title.

Just how hated are the Duke Blue Devils? “Fuck Duke” is currently a trending topic on Twitter. Yes, even bigger than Justin Bieber.

In One Shining Moment, a nation banded together around a common goal: Complete hatred of Duke. Maybe there’s hope for this country yet.

The highlight of Pepperdine’s Midnight Madness was Keion Bell’s sick dunk. How impressive was it? He jumped over not one, but 5 of his teammates. The most remarkable part is that it looked like he could have cleared even more.

Next year he should try to clear that giant mascot. Seriously, what is that thing supposed to be? It looks like Steely McBeam made love with a smurf.

Everyone has always made fun of most white people attempting to play basketball. Now we have that mockery in musical rap form.

“Caucasian” by Kno of CunninLynguists serves as a fitting tribute to the unsung heroes of the NBA and college basketball: The Big White Stiffs.

Here’s just a sampling of the lyrics, which are set to a great montage of white guys such as Shawn Bradley, Danny Ferry, and Craig Ehlo getting dunked on, playing clumsily, and sitting on the bench:

Last night, Mike Krzyzewski appeared on The Colbert Report, giving one of the most boring interviews ever on the show. Seeing as Stephen Colbert does well with every other guest on his show, the blame goes fully on Coach K.

The Duke Blue Devils coach was there to promote his new book about the 2008 Olympic Team, The Gold Standard: Building a World-Class Team, which hopefully gives Jerry Colangelo credit for all he did.

Coach K bristled from the start, as if he couldn’t be bothered with Colbert & his humor. Surely someone must have told him how these interviews work, right? It’s not like he’s not always around college students.

As for coaching advice gleaned from the interview, “telling them the truth” and “giving them a simple plan” are things that any coach of 8-year-olds could tell you.

Old people are great.

They can get away with saying whatever they want, even if it might not be considered politically correct by everyone.

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was interviewed on ESPN last night during the NIT semifinal matchup between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Paterno was reminiscing about the basketball days of yore and said this gem, which might not be something most people would say in this age of political correctness.

“They all talk about it as a Black Man’s game now. Everyone says it’s a Black Man’s game. When I grew up it was a Jewish man’s game.”- Joe Paterno

Now everyone knows this is a lie, as Joe Paterno was 35 when basketball was invented.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Beat Western Kentucky Hilltoppers In Controversial Finish: NCAA Tournament Video

The NCAA Tournament had its best finish yet, as Gonzaga University beat Western Kentucky University 83-81.

It looked like Western Kentucky might send the game to overtime after Steffphon Pettigrew tipped the ball in to tie the game at 81 with 7.2 seconds left.

But Gonzaga Bulldogs freshman Demetri Goodson had other plans, running the basketball down the court to make a short shot with 0.9 seconds left to beat the Hilltoppers.

Here comes the controversy though: Western Kentucky Coach Ken McDonald frantically called for a timeout right after Goodson’s shot, but the referees didn’t notice. In the video above, McDonald can be seen having some choice words for the referee as Gonzaga celebrates.

While it is highly unlikely that Western Kentucky would have been able to do anything with 0.9 seconds (or possibly more, had the refs had a chance to double-check the clock), they should have had the chance. Shouldn’t there be a referee who is watching the bench and the coach at a time like that?

If a coach is emphatically calling for a timeout, what more is he supposed to do? Is he supposed to get in a ref’s face and yell it to him? Is he supposed to tackle him? Somehow, I don’t think referees would like this very much.

Ultimately, it probably didn’t matter. But in a game that had several dramatic moments at the end, Western Kentucky deserved that one final shot.

On Wednesday night’s edition of The Colbert Report, The Word featured Stephen Colbert’s new March Madness proposal.

The tournament idea involves CEOs being stripped naked & forced into a cage match in front of angry spectators.

The ratings would certainly beat out the non-NCAA Tournament tournaments. Maybe Gus Johnson could squeeze it in to his schedule when he’s not fighting restaurant managers.

President Barack Obama made his picks for the NCAA Tournament yesterday. For the most part, he played it safe, going with Louisville, Pittsburgh, North Carolina and Memphis as his Final Four. Obama picked the Tar Heels to beat Louisville in the final. Looks like he’s trying to lock up North Carolina again in 2012.

As for Arizona, home state of the vanquished John McCain, Barack picked against both Arizona and Arizona State.

The President picked just one of the 6 Pac-10 teams to make it out of the first round. No respect for the West Coast, Barry?
