Jesse McCartney Forgets The Words To The National Anthem At NASCAR Race: Video

Does Jesse McCartney hate America? Why else would he leave out part of the National Anthem (and at a NASCAR race no less, America’s greatest bastion of fervored patriotism)?

The singer performed the Star Spangled Banner prior to yesterday’s Pepsi 500 NASCAR race in California, but gave the fans an edited version of the anthem.

The line, “What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?” was dropped by McCartney, who then continued without any other mistakes as confused drivers and fans looked on.

McCartney took to Twitter after screwing up the Anthem, but did not apologize, saying, “Here At the Nascar race !So much fun! Can’t believe I forgot the words to the Anthem! I’ve performed it 100 times. Bad Nerves today I guess.”

Perhaps he should try some nerve tonic before his next performance.

Kyle Busch Crashes As Tony Stewart Wins The Coke Zero 400: Video

The finish of tonight’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona was filled with fireworks.

Kyle Busch passed Tony Stewart with one lap to go. Stewart then made a move to the inside on the final turns, which Busch was able to block. Tony then moved to the outside and looked to be making the pass, but Kyle Busch then tried to cut up the track to make another block.

As you can see in the video, this didn’t work, as Busch flew into the wall, went airborne momentarily, got rear-ended by Kasey Kahne, then nailed again in the door by Joey Logano. Several other drivers were also involved in the crash at the finish line.

You can chalk this up as a just a racing accident, or you can blame Busch for attempting a 2nd block and turning himself into the wall. As the announcers predicted, he got turned for mirror driving.

Kyle Busch refused to comment after the race, while Stewart found it difficult to celebrate his win.

“It’s just a bad situation,” Stewart said. “It’s not bad because we’re put in a bad position. It just is what it is. I don’t feel as much gratification from winning this race as I probably should, I guess, because I don’t like the way the outcome happened.”

This will certainly spark further debate about restrictor plate racing, which gives fans entertaining but dangerous finishes. If every race at Daytona or Talladega ends like this, sooner or later a driver or fan will get seriously injured or killed.

Before showing this video, here is a warning. It is footage of a very violent crash. I debated whether or not to even post it, but ultimately I decided to do so in order to bring attention to the poor track design and low safety standards that took Carlos Pardo’s life.

Carlos Pardo was leading a NASCAR Mexico race in Pueblo when he was tapped from behind by another driver. Pardo’s car then headed straight into a concrete wall. Both the wall and his car disintegrated on impact.

The race was stopped, and Pardo was later posthumously awarded the victory.

It’s immediately obvious that this accident was 100% preventable. While it’s necessary for emergency crews and track officials to be able to access the track from the infield, there is no excuse for the wall being nearly perpendicular to the racing line. Additionally, the wall appeared to be bare concrete, possibly with a couple of water containers, but those didn’t do anything. It certainly had no SAFER barrier. Stronger protection may have saved Pardo’s life.

NASCAR will need to take a long hard look at all of the tracks that it uses in its various series after this. Just because this is a lower level series in a foreign country does not mean that the drivers should be subjected to sub-standard racing conditions. This track was flawed, and Carlos Pardo paid for it with his life.

If you heard that two people from Tunnel Hill, Georgia had been nabbed for DUI on a horse, you’d pretty much assume they are NASCAR fans. And you would be correct.

These two geniuses got drunk while watching NASCAR and decided to take their horses for a ride. For some reason, the local police didn’t think this was a good idea.

The men are awaiting trial, and hopefully they will not arrive at the courthouse on horseback.

Mike Skinner & TJ Bell Crash In NASCAR Truck Series Race: Video

During Saturday’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, Mike Skinner wrecked and took a wild ride along the track with his truck on its side.

The crash started when Johnny Sauter pushed Skinner down to the grass. Skinner then lost control and spun up the track toward the wall, right in front of the path of T.J. Bell. Bell had nowhere to go & t-boned Skinner’s truck, flipping it on to its side in a shower of sparks and flame.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but the photographer who can be seen right on the other side of the fence needs some clean underwear.

Talledega Race Filled With Crashes, Including Carl Edwards Going Airborne Into A Fence: Video

Restrictor plate racing at Talledega is always a time bomb. The cars pass in the draft, but everyone knows a big wreck will inevitably happen. Every race, drivers and fans alike await The Big One.

This year’s Aarons 499 at Talledega featured not just one, but two huge wrecks, plus a spectacular crash at the finish in which Carl Edwards went airborne and hit the safety fence on the front stretch. Above you will find video of Carl Edwards’ crash on the final lap.

Edwards was not hurt, despite his car going airborne and catching fire. He finished the race on foot, Ricky Bobby-style. Seven fans were injured by debris from when Edwards hit the catchfence, including two who were airlifted to the hospital to avoid traffic, but none were seriously hurt.

Following the race, Carl Edwards said, “NASCAR puts us in this box [restrictor-plate racing] and will race this way until they kill somebody. Then they’ll change it. We’re very lucky nobody got [seriously] hurt today.”

The first big crash occurred just 7 laps into the race, when Jeff Gordon & Matt Kenseth got together, also taking out Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, and Clint Bowyer.

Later on, another wreck took out several top drivers, including Juan Pablo Montoya, Denny Hamilin, Jimmie Johnson, Bobby Labonte, and Robby Gordon.

Oh, in case you care (you don’t), Brad Keselowski won the race.

NASCAR Owner Gets Nailed For DUI At Atlanta Motor Speedway

NASCAR is at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend, and all of the sponsors & other people associated with the sport are out to have a good time. Some people in NASCAR make some moonshine, others imbibe.

This includes Billy Ballew, owner of some of the most prominent trucks in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series, including that of Kyle Busch.

On Wednesday night, Ballew was driving a sponsor from his condominium at the track to a mobile home at the track, but got nabbed by “an irate cop” wearing a cap marked “security.”

He refused a breathalyzer, but admitted that he had a mixed drink with him in the car.

“It was only one drink. I was not drunk,” Ballew said. “I was on Atlanta Motor Speedway property. I was not on the highway.”

So kids, your lesson here is that it’s okay to have one mixed drink with you in the car. It’s also perfectly fine to drive with a drink as long as you’re doing it at a racetrack.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department & the courts, however, might say differently. According to Georgia State Law, it doesn’t matter where you drink and drive, so those of you who are planning on opening up a Drunk Driving Racetrack might want to hold off on your plans.
