On Wayman Tisdale & Google Trends
Did you hear that Wayne Tisdale passed away today? No? How about Raymond Tisdale then? Probably not, but some people did.
Thanks to Google Trends, we can see what people were searching for today regarding Wayman Tisdale’s death. Earlier this afternoon “Wayman Tisdale” was actually the #1 trending search term. Also appearing on the list? Wayne Tisdale at #25 and Raymond Tisdale at #38.
Now “Wayman” wasn’t the most common name, but it still doesn’t say much about people that enough of them got his name wrong for it to show up as a trending search. Hopefully people felt a bit embarrassed when they got to their search destination.
As for Wayman, there’s not a lot more to add beyond everything that’s been said about his life today. I have fond memories of his time with the Phoenix Suns. His interest in jazz was always known, and his ability to move on to being a full-time musician after his basketball career was over is something to be admired. In a world where many professional athletes struggle with their lives beyond the court or field, Wayman was a positive example for showing that life was much more than sports.
Even during his illness, Wayman kept making music, and he stayed positive. He could have let cancer get him down, but he kept right on going. Times are tough for a lot of people right now, but we can all learn a lot from him about having a good attitude.
To say that the NBA needs more guys like Wayman Tisdale is not enough. To say that sports needs more guys like Wayman Tisdale is not enough. To say that the world needs more guys like Wayman Tisdale? Now we’re getting somewhere.
