Riots At Protests Outside Of Israel vs. Sweden Davis Cup Match In Malmo: Video

Due to security concerns, this past weekend’s Davis Cup tie between Sweden and Israel was played in front of zero fans.

That didn’t stop people from protesting & starting a riot outside the Baltic Arena in Malmo, however. A group called “Stoppa Matchen” (Stop The Match) was formed to try to stop the match. Nearly 10,000 people demonstrated against Israel’s recent actions in Gaza, while dozens of people battled with police, throwing whatever they could, including firecrackers and paint. That will teach the police not to wear fur.

They also kicked police vans, which sounds like a great way to break a foot. The highlight though is when the guy tries to steal one of the windshield wipers. Fight the man! Make them drive with an unclean windshield!

Sweden’s decision to play in an empty arena was controversial. Not only did Israeli fans feel the lockout was anti-Israel, the lack of a home crowd also could have lost the tie for the Swedes. Israel knocked Sweden out of the Davis Cup, 3-2, after several close matches.
